Christmas Light Hanging Service in Hampden, MA

North Pole Lighting hangs, services, takes down, and stores Christmas lights for homes throughout the town of Hampden.

The lights are ours, and they leave with us. Nothing ends up in your barn.

Christmas Light Hanging Service for a Town With No Highway

Hampden is one of sixteen towns in Massachusetts with no numbered state highway. Route 83 misses it by less than a tenth of a mile. There are no stoplights and no bus. Nothing here is on the way to anywhere, which is a real reason a lot of contractors never show up. A Christmas light hanging service out here has to be routed on purpose. Wilbraham and East Longmeadow sit on the same days.

That is how the whole of Hampden County works for us, across this end of Western Massachusetts.

  • No numbered state highway and no stoplights, so every address is reached on town roads
  • Roughly two thousand housing units in the whole town, smaller than one neighborhood elsewhere
  • The old village runs along Main Street and Scantic Road, in the river valley at the low end of town
  • Newer estate-style houses spread up into the hills, where the land climbs past a thousand feet
  • Pine Mountain and Rattlesnake Peak both reach 1,070 feet, and a lot of houses sit on the way up

Nothing gets promised over the phone out here. We walk the property before quoting.

Everything We Install in Hampden

A small town gets the same eight services as a big one. The difference is that here they mostly happen on one visit.

  • Christmas Light Design Most roads here have no streetlights, so the plan has to work in real darkness.
  • Christmas Light Installation One trip usually covers the whole house, because nobody wants a second visit out this far.
  • Christmas Light Maintenance Reachable bulbs get replaced through the season, and this town gets covered on the same run as Wilbraham.
  • Christmas Light Removal It comes down in January, and snow on a shaded hill can push that later.
  • Christmas Light Storage Nothing lives in your barn, your shed or your garage between seasons.
  • Roofline Christmas Lights Old center chimney colonials and hip-roofed farmhouses both want the roof edge followed exactly.
  • Bush Christmas Lights Foundation bushes give a house something at eye level when the nearest streetlight is a mile off.
  • Christmas Wreath Lights A lit wreath at the entry is often the only thing visible until you are halfway up the drive.

Lighting Long Driveways and Houses Up in the Hills

The town runs from about 150 feet in the Scantic River valley to past a thousand feet on the ridges. The old settlement stayed low, strung along Main Street the way a mill village does. Everything built since has climbed. That spread is why a house here reads as one point of light, not part of a lit street.

The town tree lighting and Santa visit now happen at the new Town Hall on Wilbraham Road, in early December.

The settlement pattern and the house forms are both documented by the Massachusetts Historical Commission.

  • Colonial houses here run two and a half stories, five bays across, with a center chimney and a double door
  • The old worker cottages have carved wood trim along the roof edge, the best detail in town to light
  • A lot of these roofs change angle partway down, so the run gets planned in segments instead of one pass

When it comes down, all of it is stored off your property until November.

Roads We Light in Hampden

Main Street runs the length of the old village and Scantic Road follows the river. Wilbraham Road runs north toward the town line and holds the new Town Hall. Laughing Brook Wildlife Sanctuary sits off Main Street. The Thornton Burgess house at 789 Main Street is the only National Register listing here. Minnechaug Mountain is town-owned, and its trails are the high ground behind a lot of these houses.

Longmeadow, East Longmeadow, Hampden, Wilbraham, Agawam, Feeding Hills, Southwick, Westfield, and Hampden County, Massachusetts. Suffield, West Suffield, and Granby, Connecticut, in Hartford County.

Towns We Light a Short Drive Away

This is the far end of the route. The towns above and west of it are all inside twenty minutes.

This town separated from Wilbraham in 1878 and shares a border with it, and with East Longmeadow. The run keeps going from there, out to the towns past this one.

Hampden Christmas Light Hanging Service Questions

Do you actually come out to Hampden?

Yes. It is on the regular route and it gets worked on the same days as Wilbraham.

Is Hampden too small or too far for you?

No. Small towns are easy to route. The whole town is roughly two thousand homes and every road is covered.

My driveway is long and my road has no streetlights. Does that matter?

It changes the design, not whether we come. The display gets planned for real darkness and for the view up the drive.

Do you cover the Scantic Road and Main Street side of town?

Yes, and the hill roads above them.

Can you light an older house without damaging the trim?

Yes. Everything hangs on clips at the roof edge. Nothing gets nailed, stapled or drilled into old woodwork.

Can it be lit before the tree lighting at Town Hall?

Usually, if it is booked ahead. That happens in early December, and the weeks in front of it fill first.

Do I need to keep the lights anywhere over the summer?

No. They belong to us and they go into our storage in January, labeled to your address.

How do I get started?

Call with the address. We drive out, walk the property, and tell you what we would light.

Two Thousand Homes, One Light Crew

There are about two thousand homes in the whole town, so the roads are short and easy to route. Booking early is not a sales line here, because December fills from one end.
